Firefly knitting madness

Apparently, the only knitting projects I finish in a timely fashion are projects based on tv shows and movies. The last hat I finished was Klaus' Team Zissou beanie from The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, which has already been sent to its new home with katiemoo.

This is Jayne's hat from the Firefly episode "The Message". I used Heather's Firefly Hat pattern on craftster.org and Lamb's Pride Bulky in Rust (97), Autumn (22) and Gold (14). It took two nights to make because I hate picking up stitches and pompom making is a major pain.

It's now living with a friend, who just turned 31 and who is a new Firefly fan.

There's enough yarn left over to make another hat or I can be really hardcore and make matching mittens.

And yesh, that is a really chubby piggy modeling the hat.

eta: [livejournal.com profile] bigdamnknitters is a community devoted to Jayne's hat, as well as coming up with patterns (for knitters and crocheters). Some of the members also sell hats too.

awww, piggy hats are best!

Are you at work today? Lunch?

YES!!

This is so totally on my knitting to-do list.

Sweet!!

Hey, if I were to comission you to make one of those for me, how much would it cost and would you be willing?

I've been a real Flaky McFlakeflake recently so I'm a bad person to be promising anything right now.
HOWEVER! [livejournal.com profile] bigdamnknitters has a list of people who sell Jayne hats. Most of their prices run between $30 to $36. Some of them have posted pictures of their hats to the comm so you can check out their work.

[livejournal.com profile] tvini wrote the pattern I used, and she sells the hats for $36 (includes shipping). http://www.wearwithstyle.com/JayneFAQ.html

OMG I totally wore my Klaus hat all over Chicago where it was coldcoldcold. I, meanwhile, am in the middle of a knitting/crafty/sewing nervous breakdown.

Was it actually warm? I figured the Encore would be a good choice since SoCal doesn't really need superwarm hats.

Too much stuff on your plate?

Dang, I wish I could knit. Crocheting is nearly useless (although I love having something to do with my hands while I watch the teevee of an evening).

Have no fear!
I'll add this in edit but there's a LJ community devoted to deconstructing and making Jayne's hat, and there have been a bunch crochet hat pattern posted. Here's the most recent one:
