And now for something completely different

The DC minimates are almost here! w00t! Soon, I will have a mini-Skeets, mini-Booster, mini-Beetle, mini-Power Girl and a mini-Doctor Fate. Hee!

In knitting news, there's a meme for the Socktoberfest participants:
When did you start making socks? Did you teach yourself or were you taught by a friend or relative? or in a class?
I was inspired by all the sock knitting going on in my knitting group, so I cast on my first pair back in October 2005, using the pattern (cuff down with heel flap) from Sally Melville's The Purl Stitch *waves at B*.

What was your first pair? How have they "held up" over time?
The saga has been recorded here. I finished them a few weeks ago and they fit fine so I'm hoping they last a long while.

What would you have done differently?
Everything except the yarn.

What yarns have you particularly enjoyed?
I really like softness and the colors of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock Yarn and the striping of the Regia yarns. Knitpicks colors are nice too but they're not as soft as the Shepherd Sock Yarn.

Do you like to crochet your socks? or knit them on DPNs, 2 circulars, or using the Magic Loop method?
I just knit them on 5 DPNs. I would like to know the Magic Loop method but I'm very content in my ways.

Which kind of heel do you prefer? (flap? or short-row?)
AFTERTHOUGHT HEELS.

How many pairs have you made?
Four pairs so far though I am working on a pair right now.

eta: Damn you! DC Minimates will be resolicited at a later date.
