Yarn! (and drinking)

Two weeks ago, we had
katiem00-palooza: two days of fun, drinks, snacks and yarn!
Katie's a lucky girl because her birthday is at the same time as Stitches West, the biggest knitting convention around so it's really easy to find Katie a nice birthday gift.

We celebrated Katie's actual birthday with super awesome Korean food, booze, the movie "Nine to Five" (which was not as good as I remembered), and a sleepover at
mognetcentral's place. Katie also gave me a tin of googly-eyed peanuts.

There was even random kitty love as we checked on a coworker's cat while she was away for the weekend.
There was much yarn to be had, and this year's Stitches was far more satisfying than last year's.

The big purchases were a purse pattern and handles from Homestead Heirlooms, sock yarn made with chitin, and some chunky wool in teal from Webs.

I also bought a set of sock blockers that came with a coordinating stitch marker from Blue Moon Fibers, just in time for the Socks that Rock Club.
I also have a very cute, chicken-themed tape measure.

The big highlight is that I won a door prize! I received a $25 gift certificate to Purlescence Yarns, which I immediately spent on yarn, stitch markers and a sweater pattern.

Here's the hoodie/short sleeve variation. I haven't decided which yarn to use but I'm currently keen on Knitpick's Shine or Swish (both are machine washable).

And on the way home, we passed by a Joanne's having a moving sale where I bought even more yarn: just regular Sugar and Cream in gradated pinks and blues. I'll probably knit them into dishcloths since I really like that pattern from the Mason-Dixon Knitting Book.
Close-ups of the yarn:
