This is why the UC Berkeley campus is freaking awesome.

This is a statue outside McCone Hall where the Geology department resides. Victor Bergeron, of Trader Vic's fame, sculpted it and donated it to the school.

A painter friend of mine hates the cat because the proportions are all wrong. However, she is in the minority because everyone else I know thinks the cat is made of awesome sauce.

LOL

In other news, I finally saw Baby Momma and it was so cute. I still want an alpaca farm more than a baby (and I don't want a farm in the first place) so the film had no effect on my uterus but I completely forgot how adorable Greg Kinnear could be.

I really want to be Tina Fey when I grow up.

There seems to be no end to the awesomeness of Japan's themed cafes: from the cat cafes to the schoolboy cafes (I like how one of the commenters calls it "Cougar Cafe").

And now we have a Bizarro B:Lily-rose!

from Day in Pictures: The main attraction of Tokyo's Hibaritei cafe seems less to be the food and more the service -- the waitresses are all men outfitted as pre-teen girls in frilly dresses.

Nice!

Speaking of B:Lily-rose, there are clips on youtube!

I took a few pictures. The Winchester House gardens are super nice, and I definitely want to go back and take the tour.

Two weeks ago, we had [livejournal.com profile] katiem00-palooza: two days of fun, drinks, snacks and yarn!

Katie's a lucky girl because her birthday is at the same time as Stitches West, the biggest knitting convention around so it's really easy to find Katie a nice birthday gift.

Yay! The neverending sock project is done!
So this project took me much longer than it should have. I think I was extraordinarily bitter and I was finding any excuse to procrastinate. Anyway, I casted on (for the THIRD time) on July 26. I finished (the heels, the weaving in of ends) on September 24.

Fuck you, socks! You're my bitch now!

In brighter news, I've got a few other projects finished and in the works:Read more... )

eta: BTW, does anyone know where I can buy a red stapler for less than $25?

Technically speaking, I'm still working on my first pair of socks.
the ballad of my knitted sock angst )

I still have a lot of sock yarn in the stash, mostly self-striping and handpainted stuff. I also noticed Sunshine Yarns just posted some new colors (I'm still hoping for the self-striping Gryffindor sock yarn to return). Currently, I've got Knitpick's easy Fair Isle socks and Knitty's RPM socks as future projects.

eta: I'm also hoping to get around to making the Green Gable sweater once I decide what yarn I want. Right now, it's down to Shine (yay, machine washable!) vs. Main Line (yay, lavender!).

Heh

pictures of jayne hats = lurve )

Apparently, the only knitting projects I finish in a timely fashion are projects based on tv shows and movies. The last hat I finished was Klaus' Team Zissou beanie from The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, which has already been sent to its new home with katiemoo.

This is Jayne's hat from the Firefly episode "The Message". I used Heather's Firefly Hat pattern on craftster.org and Lamb's Pride Bulky in Rust (97), Autumn (22) and Gold (14). It took two nights to make because I hate picking up stitches and pompom making is a major pain.

It's now living with a friend, who just turned 31 and who is a new Firefly fan.

There's enough yarn left over to make another hat or I can be really hardcore and make matching mittens.

And yesh, that is a really chubby piggy modeling the hat.

eta: [livejournal.com profile] bigdamnknitters is a community devoted to Jayne's hat, as well as coming up with patterns (for knitters and crocheters). Some of the members also sell hats too.
