There seems to be no end to the awesomeness of Japan's themed cafes: from the cat cafes to the schoolboy cafes (I like how one of the commenters calls it "Cougar Cafe").

And now we have a Bizarro B:Lily-rose!

from Day in Pictures: The main attraction of Tokyo's Hibaritei cafe seems less to be the food and more the service -- the waitresses are all men outfitted as pre-teen girls in frilly dresses.

Nice!

Speaking of B:Lily-rose, there are clips on youtube!

Since ours was a destination wedding and we had guests coming from different parts of the country, the Husband and I set up a little wedding web site at the Knot (d00d, it was easy and free). It has a sister site and publication called [the nest] (dear god, it really has brackets in its title) which is all about newlyweds and married life.

The Husband and I are a few months short of our first year anniversary, and a free copy of [the nest] found its way into our mailbox.

It only seemed to ultimately cover three things: buying real estate, birth control, and how to conceive. It also had a cutesy article about going into business with your spouse. It amused me because in all of the profiles, both the marriages and the businesses were less than 3 years old. Its only redeeming quality was an unamused dog that was in the background of most of the pictures in the home decor pictorial.

Never has a magazine made me want to slit my wrists so badly. Whatever lifestyle this magazine is pushing, it is full of DO NOT WANT.

I fully admit that I am a former subscriber of Cosmopolitan, Lucky and Glamour. Kitsch is always high on my priority list. There are times when each of these publications hit "awesomely bad" levels, and they are always unintentionally hilarious. However, [the nest] just makes me want to cry and drink.

You know, I don't know what's worse on the pocketbook: being a knitter, or being a fountain pen enthusiast.

(Obviously I have left out makeup because we are so not fucking going there.)

I just realized there's a whole generation that remembers Robert Preston primarily as Centauri or Toddy.

I'm not crazy about the Music Man (I totally blame Matthew Broderick) so I'm okay with this.

I am also watching Victor/Victoria yet again, because I cannot change the channel once the clicker has found it and god damn, it seems some random ass channel is airing it almost nightly. I lurve Leslie Ann Warren's Chicago dance number. It's just so awesomely tacky and the bit about "someday we'll have an airport" just kills me.

I went shopping for a lint brush and somehow ended up with a new purse, a faux-vintage Pan Am travel bag (and no lint brush). It's as long and as wide as my Zelda bag, but it's taller and has exterior pockets on both sides which is nice. I'm also giddy over the Pan Am logo since my first airplane ride ever was on a Pan Am flight.

The husband and I were watching Iggy Pop and the Stooges performing "Ray of Light" to celebrate Madonna's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and realized Iggy would make a pretty awesome Hedwig though I don't know if I want him to do the "It's a car wash, ladies and gentlemen!" on my face.

And I don't why but this shot of Iggy, Madonna and Justin Timberlake makes me snicker.

I thought The Daily Mail was my friend. It told me stories of fat dormouses, ducklings being raised in a teacup and orphaned baby animals that adopted odd things as their new mother.

And now the Daily Mail has broken my heart with this new development:
Drinking wine damages the brain more than beer or spirits, scientists claim. They say it particularly affects the hippocampus, the part of the brain associated with memory and spatial awareness, and one of the first areas to be affected by Alzheimer's disease. It could explain why millions forget what they are doing mid-task, or arrive in a room only to forget why they went there in the first place.

Fuck that. I'm going back to my old diet.continue for LULZ )

OMG, I almost wish I was in fourth grade again so I could learn to play the Harry Potter theme instead of Hot Crossed Buns at my class recital.

The demo for Professor Layton and the Curious Village is already up.

It's just the classic "get the 3 wolves and 3 chickens to the other riverbank without anyone getting eaten" puzzle so this might be more like Brain Age with some nice animation (check out the trailer, there are some nicely done cut scenes) than Hotel Dusk. But damn, I want to build a zig-zaggy fence to separate the sheep from pigs, and I also want to know the deal with the ferris wheel chasing our heroes.

In other news, I plan to watch Sweeney Todd tomorrow. Gawd damn it, I will watch it tomorrow. I've been putting it off for weeks (mostly bad weather and the local second-run theater seemed to only screen it at 9.30pm or later) and I feel I can't go visit my local anime store until I've seen it (the sales clerk I usually chat with is a big Alan Rickman fan and has been encouraging me to see Sweeney Todd since forever).

Another reason to love Ace of Cakes: Mary Alice just said, "Operation Cookie Clusterfuck!"
I did not know this but Charm City Cakes sells more than just t-shirts and beanies, they also have drumsticks with the bakery's logo. ZOMG it would be super awesome for the friends who love Food Network AND own the Rock Band drum controller.

After seeing [livejournal.com profile] ziggybecket's awesome Chinese New Year photos, I totally want a new qipao. I really like this one but I think it's because it looks so much like my Grandmother's when I see pictures of her from the seventies. And this one looks a lot like my prom dress. Shhhh! I know I already have a gorgeous red qipao in my closet.

Somewhere along the line I graduated from being an eyeshadow whore to a cream eyeliner whore. I can't stop coveting this liner in Black Honey and these liners in Espresso Ink and Black Plum Ink.

The new Ace Attorney game isn't out until February 20 and I've already hit a plateau with The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Fucking Temple of the Ocean King. I finished Eternal Sonata a few days ago, and I'm debating whether or not to replay it in Encore Mode to get all the remaining score pieces, and possible gaming achievements.

I am intrigued by Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I'm a total sucker for these mystery/puzzle games and it comes out 10 days before Apollo Justice which might help me savor my lawyer adventures a little longer.

Karrie's picked up on a cute meme: just post a cap of your desktop.

I snagged the desktop icons here and the wallpaper from this person. I really didn't like the Cowboy Bebop movie but that was a very pretty scene, and there's enough contrast for me to actually read what my icons say. I've also learned it's very hard to find desktop wallpapers for 1680x1050 screens.

ZOMG!
I am watching Playing By Heart right now! I'm having 1999 flashbacks. I feel like I should be listening to Hootie and the Blowfish and be browsing the Usenet.

I'm at the part where Jon Stewart comes to Gillian Anderson's house for dinner, and it is not going well. They play the cutest couple--it's not just because they're almost the same height but it helps.

OMG I forgot about Dennis Quaid in a gay bar, flirting with a drag queen.

My local PBS station has been airing Vicar of Dibley, and I'm so loving it. I have a vague memory of Sean Bean having a cameo, but he hasn't popped up yet. I was totally sold on the show when one of the characters said--in what could be my favorite insult ever--"she's one teat short of an udder." It's also introduced me to what may be the prettiest word for "slaughterhouse".

The series finale is airing next week (PBS has been showing the episodes out of order) and I'm really looking forward to it, least of which for the random Dr. Who references: the matron of honor dressing up as the Tenth Doctor and the Dalek bridesmaids (Alice as 10 at 2:31, Daleks at 7:52).

The entire series is now out on Region 1 DVD. I'll probably Netflix it since I'd like to see the series the way it aired, plus it will have the all Comic Relief specials.

PBS has also been airing Coupling, and I've been watching that--which is silly since I own the DVDs so I can watch all the Jeff I want and completely ignore Oliver. The last episode aired back in 2004 and it ended on a bit of cliffhanger so I've been a bit peeved that Steven Moffat and all the actors have been too busy to make series five.

Thankfully, Moffat has posted epilogues for all the characters (on wiki via a Dr. Who message board which is why it took me so long to find it):
just in case )

OMG, etsy has fountain pens. GORGEOUS fountain pens.

And speaking of pens, I just bought myself an awesome, awesome thing: a RETRACTABLE FOUNTAIN PEN. Hot damn!

Some people might be finding some adorably chubby seal stationary in their mailboxes since I am going to be finding any reason possible to use this pen.
