All good things...

Mostly just gut reactions...
At least the three I picked to survive (Giles, Dawn, Andrew) really did survive. However, I also really expected some major carnage: I wanted most of the SITs to die, I wanted a major Scooby to die, I wanted Wood to die; I wanted to see bodies, damn it. After all those "this is war, there will be lots of casualties" speeches, I expected a big body count. I'm disappointed that only Amanda (or a potential that looked like Amanda) and Anya were the only ones that died. Rona may be dead but it was unclear.
Damn it, Kennedy should have died because 1) of Willow's tongue stud comment and 2) sex+Willow=DEATH. Yes, Kennedy, you are a brat. Why aren't you dead?!
The Faith+Wood coupling is still so very wrong.
I kind of got my Spike death but at the same time I didn't since I know the boy's been signed on to Angel. I think, had I not known the news, I would have enjoyed Spike's death more because his sacrifice means nothing now because I know he's coming back. Spuffy and the Spike's soul were just so poorly handled that I just wanted to see the boy die. Just let me have that people: DEATH!
And why was the First whispering into Spike's ear during the Buffy+Angel moments? By this point, the First should have no power over him. I did expect Spike to react to the First, at least.
I liked the whole giving the Slayer power to all potential Slayers. Demons and vampires are all over the world; it didn't make sense to have just one Slayer, especially one that just stayed in Sunnydale. When Kendra (then Faith) came onboard, I expected Buffy to fight the monsters in Sunnydale while the second Slayer would travel to everywhere else. And it was never quite clear how a potential slayer got chosen when the previous one died. Was a name drawn out of a cosmic hat? Having all the girls at their fullest strength just makes more sense--of course, that probably means there are some extra strong toddlers out there.
Caleb's death was kind of lame.
I liked "The Wish" reference when Giles mentioned another Hellmouth in Cleveland. Because of the spotty memories of the X-Files' writers, I became a continuity whore. I *love* the fact that Mutant Enemy kept track of most of the stuff they did and didn't change the entire mythology just because a writer forgot to mention info revealed in a previous episode.
The Sunnydale Hellmouth may be gone, but Buffy and the Scoobies didn't destroy the very concept of evil so the First is still around.
I had a near Xandrew moment when Xander was asking about Anya's death. I wanted the boys to hug or share a bigger moment.
Enough with the loneliness speeches!
I'm glad Willow got over her magic angst enough to empower the SITs but had she just realized her angst was nothing in comparison to the Apocalypse, maybe Caleb and the First could have been dealt with a lot sooner.
Die, Kennedy, die!
I certainly liked Buffy's finale a whole lot more than the X-Files', though it still kind of left me underwhelmed and a little disappointed.
edit: really loved the shopping exchange between the Scoobies. Nice throwback to the first season.

Date: 2003-05-20 11:44 pm (UTC)I'm a bit sad I couldn't get weepy over spike-death because I know about him being on angel. However- I don't konw if you watch Angel or whatnot- is the the shanshu or whatever? Will he be human on Angel?
I thought it was as good a finale as we could get from a decent but not great season. I still think that season 5 was much better at "this is the end" thing. I loved the whole feminist slayers thing, though. That was actually the most affecting part for me, and reminded me why I love this show so damn much.
Caleb = lame, yeah. I thought he was cool in his first episode but they did NOTHING with him.
The first - still not nearly as scary/cool as it should've/could've been. *sigh*
Willow!Angst and Willow/Kennedy were the two things i hated about this season the most. Pointless, pointless, pointless. And willow's one of my favorite characters.
I am so sad over Anya.
I liked the shopping exchange but it also felt forced/rushed. Again, 2 hour finale would've given us more time for reflective scoobie moments. It was touching, though.

Date: 2003-05-21 12:30 am (UTC)It annoys me that they wouldn't mess with the Scooby trinity (Buffy, Willow, Xander) but knew there's no impact if they had killed off a throwaway character like Wood so we're left with Anya.
A 2-hour finale would have been nice.
I've only seen the first 2 seasons of Angel since I don't get WB and local friends don't watch/hate Angel. However, if Wolfram and Hart bring back Spike, I swear...

Date: 2003-05-21 01:40 am (UTC)I was convinved Xander would die (The eye WAS the first step! Come on!)...and that, like you said, there would be major carnage. I thought Faith, Wood, the SITs (KENNEDY AT LEAST?), almost everyone was going. Ummm...yeah.
The mall part at the END kind of disturbed me. Xander finds out Anya's DEAD and jokes about the Gap? I know it was for a lighter ending, but...wow. Color him insensitive.
I loved the Xander/Andrew moment too, but there SHOULD have been a hug. *sniff*
I can't believe it's over.

Date: 2003-05-21 07:57 am (UTC)I just remember the "that's my girl" comment, probably because I kept yelling, "hug eachother already!"
re: All good things...
Date: 2003-05-24 09:56 am (UTC)I wanted Xander to kick it, and HATED Anya's death. I really liked her character and wtf are they going to do for an Observer/Narrator if they do a movie? It just seems really silly and a pointless waste.
What else? Yeah, I thought the Woods/Faith thing was a little creppy too. And he *should* have died at the end. Otoh, we don't really know if he made it past the "suprise" comment. He could still (hopefully) be deader than snot.
